2026 Maternal Health Awareness Day

Every year, Maternal Health Awareness Day invites us to pause and look honestly at how pregnant and postpartum people are supported — or too often, not supported — in our communities.

Maternal health is not just about pregnancy or birth outcomes. It’s about access, education, emotional safety, physical support, and being seen as a whole human being before, during, and long after pregnancy.

That’s the heart behind why I’m hosting a free Maternal Health Awareness Day community event on January 23rd from 4:00–8:00 PM at Method Gym.

Why Maternal Health Is So Important

Maternal health outcomes in the U.S. continue to reveal deep gaps — especially for communities of color, low-income families, and people navigating pregnancy without strong support systems.

But beyond statistics, there’s a quieter truth I see every week in class:

Many pregnant and postpartum people feel:

  • Unsure of what movement is safe

  • Disconnected from their changing bodies

  • Overwhelmed by conflicting advice

  • Isolated in an experience that should be communal

Maternal Health Awareness Day reminds us that care should be proactive, not reactive, and that wellness doesn’t start at labor — it starts with education, trust, and access.

Not Just a celebration

This gathering isn’t just a celebration. It’s a convening of maternal health care and wellness providers — people who serve families across pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood.

By bringing providers together in one shared space, we:

  • Make resources easier to find

  • Encourage collaboration instead of silos

  • Help families build real relationships with local support

  • Create visibility for services people may not know exist

Community care works best when it’s connected.

Why Method Gym

I’m hosting this event at Method Gym in Dale City, where I regularly teach gentle, safe yoga classes for pregnant and postpartum moms every Wednesday at 8:00 PM.

This space already holds:

  • Movement without pressure

  • Strength without shame

  • Support without judgment

It felt important to host Maternal Health Awareness Day in a place where people already come to move, heal, and feel welcome.

What the Event Includes (And Why It’s Free)

This is a free community event, because access should never be a barrier to care.

What to Expect:

  • A free gift for attendees

  • A 60-minute prenatal yoga workshop, taught by Chrissy

  • A 30-minute sound bath healing experience led by Mayra

  • Time to connect with local maternal health and wellness providers

  • Childcare and face painting available during part of the event

Movement, rest, and connection — all in one evening.

Why Yoga & Sound Healing Belong Together

Pregnancy and postpartum seasons are not just physical — they are deeply nervous-system experiences.

Yoga helps people:

  • Build trust in their bodies

  • Move safely and intentionally

  • Understand breath, posture, and support

Sound bath healing offers:

  • Deep rest

  • Nervous system regulation

  • A sense of being held without effort

Together, they create space not just to do, but to receive.

Why I’m Hosting This

I’m a Yoga Alliance–registered 200-hour yoga teacher, a prenatal yoga teacher, and I hold specialized training in prenatal yoga, doula support, and pelvic health.

But more than credentials, my “why” comes from listening.

Listening to:

  • Pregnant students unsure if their pain is “normal”

  • Postpartum moms who were told to “just wait it out”

  • People who want to move but are afraid of doing the wrong thing

I host this event because maternal health deserves more than one-off conversations at your doctor's office. It deserves community, education, and care that meets people where they are.

Come and join us

This gathering is about more than one day.

It’s about reminding families that:

  • You are not alone

  • Your body deserves respect

  • Your questions matter

  • Support exists — locally

Maternal Health Awareness Day is an invitation to come together, learn, rest, and reconnect — not just with resources, but with each other.

I hope you’ll join us.
